Baladk Street art and mural festival

Baladk Street Art and Mural Festival
Various roles including curator, coordinator.... (2014–2022)
Jordan

For nearly a decade, I was part of shaping Baladk, a street art and mural festival that brought visual artists into the streets of Amman. The festival’s name, derived from the Arabic phrase for “your country!”—invited reflections on identity, place, and belonging through murals and graffiti in public space.

My role was driven more by practice of establising connections with networks and artists, fundraising, coordinating artists, organizing production, walls, permits, engaging with communities, and navigating the everyday realities of working in public space.

Through open calls and collaborations, I helped curate and produce over 35 murals with local and international artists, addressing a range of social and political themes relevant to life in Amman. Working across neighborhoods, we engaged directly with residents, volunteers, and institutions, often negotiating with city authorities, managing permits, and overcoming logistical hurdles.
